In einem von über 100 Profifußballerinnen unterzeichneten offenen Brief wird die FIFA aufgefordert, ihre Partnerschaft mit dem saudi-arabischen Ölkonzern Aramco aufzugeben. Die Partnerschaft wird aufgrund der Haltung Saudi-Arabiens zu Frauen- und LGBTQ+-Rechten sowie zum Klimaschutz kritisiert. In dem Brief wird der Vertrag als „Untergrabung“ des Frauenfußballs bezeichnet.

Imagine LGBTQ+ players, many of whom are heroes of our sport, being expected to promote Saudi Aramco during the 2027 World Cup, the national oil company of a regime that criminalises the relationships that they are in and the values they stand for?
